Psoriasis: Facts, Symptoms, Remedies & More

What causes psoriasis?
The cause of psoriasis as per the experts is an immune system malfunction. In normal condition, skin cells form, then push up to the surface, and then eventually die and flake off. This process takes around a month time but in case of psoriasis, skin cells mature and move to the surface in just 3 to 4 days. These cells do not shed and instead pile up on the skin, forming the red itchy scales. Experts also say that in one-third of the cases it can be a genetic condition also. There can be various triggers for psoriasis like emotional stress, skin injury, infection, or some medical reaction.
Symptoms of Psoriasis
Here is a list of classic psoriasis symptoms which can help you in giving a better idea of what to check for.
Red Patches or Scaly Skin
Discoloured NailbedsMost people with psoriasis notice a difference in the appearance of fingernails and toenails. The nailbeds often become pitted and discolored. They might look lifted or raised off the skin. (See what else your nails reveal about your health.)
Tender, Blistered Skin
People with psoriasis notice their epidermis becoming more red and tender and eventually blistered. These blisters may be filled with pus.
Inflamed Folds of the Skin
Inflammation may be seen in delicate areas of the body like the armpits, breasts, and groin region. There might not be any scaling of skin but it is the most difficult one to treat due to the sensitivity of the area as rubbing or sweating irritates the area.
