Lasers penetrate the skin to target specific skin issues. Some lasers help boost collagen production for tighter skin, while others reduce the visibility of acne scars, rosacea, and sun damage. Now, a new laser called AviClear is designed to address acne. It is the first energy device approved by the FDA to treat mild, moderate, and severe acne. This laser is effective in regulating oil glands, comparable to popular acne medications like Accutane and tretinoin.

Dr. Dennis Gross, a board-certified dermatologist in New York City, explains that the AviClear laser is unique in that it targets underperforming oil glands. These glands produce heavy oil that tends to get trapped rather than flow freely. When this sticky oil clogs pores, it leads to acne. AviClear works by specifically targeting and controlling these sebaceous glands to reduce oil overproduction.

In a recent episode of What the Wellness, Ella Dove, the director of creative development at Well+Good, tried the AviClear treatment. The process involves three 30-minute sessions, and Dove shared her experience after the third session. She noted, “I have already noticed improvements in my skin. The breakouts I have now are smaller and heal faster, unlike the heavy cystic acne I used to get.”
