Trends Of Gluten-Free and Organic Food That Is Showing Up With Time

Organic food

What is it all about?   I have read and heard a lot about organic food.  Well, allow me to explain it to you.  Organic food is grown by using methods of organic farming.  As per this method of farming, minimal amounts of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers are used.  Pesticides used are of organic nature.  Organic food is not even processed using artificial methods.  It is all done using natural methods without chemicals.

Pricing? Talking about the price, it is far more expensive than the food made commercially. For example, if comparing price of an organic dal I recently came across to, it was costly than the normal one.

Benefits of organic food-

  1. The food does not contain residues of harmful pesticides as synthetic chemicals are not used.  So you can be sure that no chemical pesticide enters your system.
  2. It is environment friendly too as it helps reduce pollution due to chemical pesticides.
  3. Organic food is fresher and tastes better.

Gluten free food

What is it all about?  There has been a lot of hullabaloo about this lately.  Gluten is a protein found in wheat, rye, barley, and crossbreeds of these grains.  Some people are allergic to gluten.  They suffer from celiac disease.  It is a disorder of the small intestine; due to the disorder the patient’s natural body defense system reacts to gluten by attacking the lining of the small intestine.  So the body is unable to absorb the nutrients from the food consumed.  Gluten free food is mainly for these people.

Foods that qualify as gluten free

  • Corn
  • Rice
  • Buck wheat
  • Amaranth
  • Millet
  • Soy
  • Dairy products ( Milk, butter, cheese, margarine, curd)
  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Eggs
  • Nuts
  • Beans
  • Legumes

Pricing? Gluten free food is expensive and will not suit everyone’s pocket.

According to one of the study it has been discovered that for people who don’t have celiac disease or gluten sensitivity then the diet is not required. It has just become a food craze and became a trend eventually. People have started to follow it up as well with time.

People suffering from celiac disease need to stick to the diet but normal people are into it just because they feel it is healthier. You can find gluten free stuff a lot these days (mainly breads).

There is a lack of awareness of Celiac disease in India.  It is not a worthy bet for the people without this disease because following gluten free diet means missing out on the vitamins and minerals that whole grains have to offer.
