If You Want To Get Rid Of Pimples, Pimples Patches Are Recommended by Dermatologists

Pimple patches have gained popularity on TikTok lately, but dermatologists have been using them in their offices for years. These patches help your skin heal naturally, making it effective even against stubborn pimples.

In a recent episode of Dear Derm, Mona Gohara, MD, a board-certified dermatologist from Connecticut, explains how these patches work to treat tough pimples. Dr. Gohara says, “They promote healing to the bottom and sides of the pimple so that the top layer is the last to heal completely.” This speeds up the pimple’s disappearance by allowing the skin’s natural healing process to work faster. By covering the pimple with a patch, it reduces the temptation to pick or pop it, lowering the risk of scarring and hyperpigmentation.

While there are many fancy pimple patches available, Dr. Gohara mentions that a simple hydrocolloid bandage from the drugstore can work just as effectively. She advises, “If you want to keep it simple, you can get a hydrocolloid patch from the drugstore… it pretty much does the same thing.” Just apply it to clean, dry skin whenever you feel like picking at a pimple, and let it do its job.

Dr. Gohara also points out that common mistakes can prevent the patches from working at their best.
